In My Diary (4)

A Day in the Life of a Writer

7:00 am: Wake up. Take out my computer start typing.

8:00 am: Quickly get ready for work.

8:30 am: Drive to work listening to a book on CD on the way.

9:00 am: Start work with thoughts of writing spinning in my head.
I think of my story and all the things I still could write. I think of my
blog desperately wanting to check up on my social networking. I
think of a new story that I can start writing after these other two are
finished.

1:00 pm: Lunch break. Go to Taco John's, get a small soda, and write
as fast as I can for an hour on my netbook. Yes, I take my netbook
everywhere I go. You never know when you will get a chance to
write.

2:00 pm: Go back to work.  I continue to think of my work in progress.
I think of the next direction I want to take it and what my characters
will do.

6:00 pm: Leave work. I listen to the book on CD again.

6:30 pm: Get home. Immediately check my blog, twitter, and google +.

7:00 pm: Eat supper.

7:30 pm: Turn on the television and start writing again. It always helps
when I have a little background noise.

12:00 pm: Go to bed and start my schedule all over again. Hopefully
during the night my dreams inspire me to write a different story.

Is your day consumed with thoughts of writing?

Sincerely,
R.J. Ropsen

  1. Hey RJ!

Thanks for stopping by my blog earlier. It's nice to see another not-yet pubbed YA author blog. I totally get the "writing stories in your head" thing while doing normal daily activities. Creating my characters and plots definitely make my work day go faster if I'm doing routine, monotonous tasks. :-)

I wish you well on your novels--they sound exciting!

  5. I'm impressed that you think of new stories. I obsess over the same one. Pretty sure that's a downfall, but between editing my novel, updating my blog, books on cd while cleaning, and books with pages before bed at night I can't imagine having time for any more writing or reading!

  6. @ Amie Thanks, I am always trying to think of a new story. A new creation is constantly spinning in my head. Yes, it is hard to find time to write days are always so busy. It helps when I bring my netbook everywhere. I always find time to write unexpectedly during the day. Best of luck with your writing.

  7. Thanks for commenting on my blog. Like you, I think about my stories in between working hours, but my best ideas often come when I'm out walking. Good luck with the novel - looking forward to following your blog.

  9. Completely, and totally consumed.

I take notes in bed, often sleep on pens, and my laptop goes EVERYWHERE with me.

  15. @ Eve Yes it does get busy but I love writing so it is a good thing. Your right, lots of writers stories consume their minds. My thoughts are always consumed with ways to add interesting twists to the story I am currently writing.
